Abstract

Abstract

Taekwondo athletes require good physical condition, especially in terms of speed and agility. If they want to achieve their desired performance, athletes must have good speed and agility. The coach's responsibility is to help athletes achieve excellence in performance in order to achieve maximum results. The researcher wanted to determine the speed and agility of taekwondo athletes at the Surabaya club. This study used a quantitative approach with a descriptive research design. The test items used were the dollyo chagi kick and 30-meter run for speed, and the Illinois agility test and hexagonal test for agility. The results of the speed and agility tests showed that taekwondo athletes at the Dukati club had below-average scores. In the right and left kick speed test, 75% of the athletes scored below average, indicating that they lacked kicking speed. In the 30-meter run test, the frequency was 41.7% in the moderate norm, indicating that they lacked speed in the 30-meter run test. In the Illinois test agility test item, the frequency was 75% in the moderate norm, indicating that they lacked agility in the Illinois test. The hexagonal test had a frequency of 58.3% in the good norm. However, half of these frequencies have lower values, with several inhibiting factors causing athletes to have lower scores. Training programs that have not yet had a significant impact, as well as inadequate facilities and infrastructure, may be contributing factors to the lack of physical fitness in terms of speed and agility among taekwondo athletes at the Dukati Surabaya club. The follow-up action to address this issue is to create a measurable and effective training program to improve physical fitness in terms of speed and agility.
