ANALYSIS SLEEP QUALITY ON ENDURANCE PERFORMANCE DURING RAMADHAN AND NON-RAMADAN IN YOUTH ATHLETES
Main Article Content
Abstract
Maintaining physical performance amid changes in sleep habits is an interesting topic for research. This is driven by the month of ramadan, during which young athletes must continue to train and engage in activities just as they do outside of ramadan. However, there are changes in the sleep schedules and habits of athletes observing the ramadan fast. The literature indicates that sleep quality in athletes also influences physical performance. This study aims to determine how the month of ramadan affects the endurance performance of adolescent athletes compared to the month following ramadan. Twelve to fifteen-year-old basketball athletes (n=10) participated in this study, in which they trained while fasting in 2023. The PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) was used to assess sleep quality, and the PACER (Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run) was used to assess endurance performance. The correlation analysis revealed a correlation coefficient of -.285 between sleep quality and endurance performance during ramadan, while the correlation coefficient between sleep quality and endurance performance after ramadan was -.315. Both during and after ramadan, there was no significant relationship between sleep quality and physical endurance performance (p>0.05). The conclusion of this
study is that there is no significant relationship between sleep quality and physical endurance performance, either during or.
