Interest in Volleyball Extracurricular Activities at SMPN 6 Ngawi

Abstract

Extracurricular volleyball is a platform for developing students' interests and talents outside intracurricular activities. At SMP Negeri 6 Ngawi, the volleyball extracurricular program is followed by 30 students, exceeding the school's quota, requiring a selection process. However, the school has never specifically measured students' interest, so the number of participants does not necessarily reflect their actual interest. This study aims to determine student interest in the volleyball extracurricular program at SMP Negeri 6 Ngawi. A descriptive quantitative approach with a survey method was used. The sample consisted of 30 students determined through saturated sampling. Data were collected using an 18-item Likert-scale questionnaire based on three elements of interest according to Krapp, namely cognitive, emotional, and value, then analyzed descriptively and categorized into five levels based on mean and standard deviation norms. Results showed an average interest score of 55.07 with a standard deviation of 9.559. A total of 36.7% of students were in the moderate category, 30.0% low, 16.7% very high, 10.0% high, and 6.7% very low, with 73.4% classified as moderate-to-low interest. Across the three elements, cognitive, emotional, and value all showed a tendency toward the moderate category. It can be concluded that student interest in volleyball extracurricular at SMP Negeri 6 Ngawi is moderate and has not developed optimally, serving as a consideration for schools and coaches in increasing student interest.
