Berdasarkan hasil data pra penelitian yang diperoleh, bahwa siswa SMA Tunas Luhur masih mengalami kesulitan dalam menuliskan kosakata hiragana. Pada penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan media permainan spelling bee untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis kosakata Hiragana.. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan pengaruh permainan spelling bee terhadap kemampuan menulis kosakata Hiragana siswa kelas XI SMA Tunas Luhur Paiton Probolinggo, serta respon siswa terhadap permainan spelling bee. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode true eksperiment design. Kelas XI IPA sebegai kelas kontrol dan kelas XI ICP sebagai kelas eksperimen. Dari hasil analisis data kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen diperoleh hasil t-test adalah 9,01t (0,05,db) =1,74 >t(0,05,17) = 1,74. Maka Ho diterima dan H1 ditolak, sehingga dinyataan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara hasil belajar kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen. Jadi dapat disimpulkan bahwa media permainan Spelling Bee tidak mempunyaipengaruh positif yang signifikan terhadap kelas eksperimen dalam penguasaan kosakata hiragana pada kelas XI ICP. Namun berdasarkan hasil analisis angket, media permainan spelling bee mendapatkan respon positif dari siswa ditunjukkan dengan keantusiasan dan keaktifan siswa selama penerapan permainan spelling bee. Siswa aktif berdiskusi dan bekerjasama selama berkelompok dan siswa berlomba lomba untuk menjadi kelompok terbaik. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa permainan spelling bee dapat memotivasi siswa dalam belajar kosakata hiragana. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa permainan spelling bee dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menguasai kosakata Hiragana walaupun perbedaannya tidak signifikan.

Abstract

Based on the result of pre-research data, the students were dealing with difficulty in writing Hiragana letters. In this research, the researcher used spelling bee game media to increase the students’ Hiragana writing skill. This research was aimed to describe the effect of spelling bee towards the writing skill of Hiragana letters of the eleventh graders of SMA Tunas Luhur Paiton Probolinggo and the students’ responses towards the game.The research was conducted in SMA Tunas Luhur Paiton Probolinggo in two meetings. XI ICP was assigned as the experimental class and the class of XI IPA was assigned as the control class. This research is a quantitative research using True Experimental Design because it assigned two subjects to be contrasted. Based on the results of data analysis of control and experimental class, the result of t-test is 9.01 t (.05, db) = 1.74 > t (.05, 17) = 1.74. Thusm Ho was accepted and H1 was rejected; it can be said that there is no significant difference between the learning outcomes of control and experimental class. It can be concluded that Spelling Bee did not provide significant, positive effect towards the experimental class of XI ICP in the term of their mastery of writing hiragana letters. However, based on the results of questionnaire, Spelling Bee obtained positive responses from the students; it can be noticed by students’ enthusiasm and involvement during the implementation of Spelling Bee Game. The students were actively discussing and cooperating with their groups and the students exerted to be the best group. It proved that Spelling Bee Game can motivate the students in learning Hiragana Letters. Therefore, it can be concluded that Spelling Bee can increase the students’ writing ability of Hiragana letter despite the insignificant difference.
