UTILIZATION OF RECLAIMED ASPHALT PAVEMENT (RAP) IN THE PRODUCTION OF POROUS ASPHALT

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the utilization of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in the production of porous asphalt and analyze its effect on the mechanical properties and permeability of the mixture. Porous asphalt is selected due to its high air voids, which enhance surface drainage performance, while the use of RAP is expected to improve the mechanical stability of the mixture and support sustainability in road construction. The research was conducted experimentally at the Road and Transportation Laboratory of Universitas Negeri Surabaya using Marshall and permeability tests on specimens containing 5% and 10% RAP. The results show that all mixtures met the technical specifications based on Bina Marga 2018 and the Australian Asphalt Pavement Association (AAPA) standards. The highest stability value was achieved with 10% RAP at 836.064 kg, while the highest permeability coefficient of 0.43 cm/s was obtained at a water-cement factor (FAS) of 0.36. The Marshall Quotient and Flow values also met the required specification limits. In conclusion, the addition of up to 10% RAP in porous asphalt mixtures not only complies with technical standards but also enhances mechanical performance and permeability. This contributes to more efficient material usage and promotes environmental sustainability in pavement construction.
