Abstract

Superplasticizers are additives used in fresh concrete mixtures to improve workability by increasing slump value. Due to the scarcity and high cost of cement, innovations are needed to reduce cement usage, such as by using cement reducers. This study aims to analyze the effect of polycarboxylic superplasticizer on the compressive strength and slump of 50 MPa concrete with 0.8% cement reducer. An experimental method was employed using cylindrical specimens (Ø15 cm × 30 cm), tested at 3, 7, 14, and 28 days. The results show that the addition of 0.2% superplasticizer yielded the highest compressive strength of 48.67 MPa at 28 days, while the 0.6% dosage resulted in the lowest strength of 41.30 MPa. Superplasticizer also increased the slump value but tended to decrease compressive strength at higher dosages.
