Mojokerto Pada era modern saat ini banyak para penjual berlomba-lomba untuk menawarkan barangnya agar laku terjual. Seperti para penjual es tebu didaerah pabrik Mertex Mojokerto menggunakan cara yang unik, menggunakan wanita cantik untuk berjualan es tebu dengan tujuan menarik pelanggan laki-laki dan para pengendara yang melintasi area tersebut. Para penjual ini berdandan seperti pelayan cafe dengan dandanan yang membuat mata para laki-laki tidak berkedip, dengan rias wajah yang mendukung kecantikan wanita para penjual es tebu tersebut membuat pembeli semakin betah berlama-lama untuk membeli es tebunya sembari memandangi kecantikan penjualnya. Dengan adanya fenomena tersebut banyak pelanggan nakal yang sering menggoda penjual. Maka dengan banyaknya pembeli yang nakal dan pandangan masyarakat yang selalu memandang buruk. Dari hal tersebut koreografer terinspirasi untuk mengangkat kisah perjuangan salah satu penjual es tebu yang berjuang mempertahankan hidup demi keluarga dan merubah pandangan masyarakat pada penjual es yang terlihat negatif. Dengan metode wawancara dari narasumber membuat konsep muncul dalam karya tari yang berjudul Saccharum Officinarum. Saccharum Officinarum adalah bahasa latin dari bunga tebu yang menjadi penggambaran dari penjual es tebu yang cantik seperti bunga tebu. Karya tari Saccharum Officinarum berfokus pada perjuangan penjual es tebu Mertex.

In today's modern era, many sellers are competing to offer their goods so that they can be sold. Like the ice cane sellers in the Mertex Mojokerto factory area, they use a unique method, using beautiful women to sell sugar cane with the aim of attracting male customers and motorists who pass through the area. These sellers dress up like cafe waiters with make-up that makes the eyes of the men don't blink, with makeup that supports the beauty of the women, the ice cane sellers make the buyers feel more comfortable to linger to buy the ice cane while looking at the beauty of the seller. With this phenomenon, many naughty customers often tempt sellers. So with many naughty buyers and people's views that always look bad. From this, the choreographer was inspired to tell the story of the struggle of an ice cane seller who struggled to survive for the sake of his family and changed people's views on ice sellers who looked negative. With the interview method from the interviewees, the concept appears in the dance work entitled Saccharum Officinarum. Saccharum Officinarum is Latin for sugar cane flower which is a description of a beautiful sugar cane seller like sugar cane flowers. Saccharum Officinarum's dance work focuses on the struggle of the Mertex ice-cane seller. And the choreographer uses several theories that are used for work guidelines and writing using Sal Murgianto and Hidayat's Choreography theory, Jaqueline Smith's Construction Theory, Subono's Struggle Theory. The approach to the creation of the Saccharum Officinarum dance works using the choreographic method proposed by Sal Murgianto based on the book he created entitled "Choreography". dance (Sal Murgiyanto, 1983:3). The dance work of Saccharum Officinarum originated with the theme of struggle from one of the Mertex ice cane sellers. The dance work of Saccharum Officinarum is performed virtually using the stage of SMAN 1 Gedeg as a shooting location which is formed in such a way that a prossenium stage can be formed with 3 focus lights and 1 general light as an atmosphere reinforcement in the dance work with additional properties of a sugar cane grinding machine, plastic chairs, plastic cups, sugarcane stalks shaped in such a way as to resemble a stall selling sugarcane ice. The Saccharum Officinarum dance is performed by 4 dancers consisting of 3 female dancers and 1 male dancer. The female dancers use beautiful makeup and wear red dresses, while the male dancers use light natural makeup by wearing trousers, maroon polo shirts, and jeans jackets to make them look natural. The scenario in the dance work Saccharum Officinarum consists of 4 parts, namely the introduction section describes the feeling of doubting the ice cane seller, part 1 feels happy about getting ready to sell, part 2 has a tense feel by entering male dancers as a teaser, part 4 feels happy after being able to maintain self- esteem. Saccharun Officinarum is a group dance that depicts the story of the struggle of an ice cane seller in the Mertex Mojokerto area who is always considered bad by the public or the general public. The dance work Saccharum Officinarum gives a message that what is always visible from the outside is not necessarily the same as what appears from the inside and also gives a message to always respect other people if you want to be respected by others.
