Abstract

Tamansari Village, located in Licin Subdistrict, Banyuwangi Regency, is experiencing quite complex socio-cultural dynamics due to the increasing tourism activity, particularly tourism related to Mount Ijen Crater. The emerging issues include concerns among the local community about the erosion of traditional values, changes in lifestyle, and social inequality caused by unequal access to economic opportunities in the tourism sector. This research was conducted in Tamansari Village with the aim of understanding the impact of Ijen Crater tourism on the socio-cultural changes within the local community. The background of this research is based on various factors that influence the impact of tourism on society. This study employs a qualitative approach, in which the researcher serves as the key instrument in sampling data sources, using purposive sampling with a snowball technique. Data collection was carried out through triangulation (a combination of methods), with data analysis conducted inductively or qualitatively. The results of this study emphasize meaning over generalization. The findings indicate that tourism at Ijen Crater has had a significant impact on the socio-cultural transformation of the people in Tamansari Village, Licin Subdistrict, Banyuwangi Regency. The increase in tourist visits has driven local economic growth, created job opportunities, and increased household income. The interaction between tourists and local residents has led to changes in social patterns, with the community becoming more open to outside cultures and adapting to new products—though this adaptation raises concerns about the potential loss of traditional values and local cultural identity under the pressure of modernization.
