Abstract

The Sumber Maron Nature Tourism Area in Malang Regency holds significant natural and economic potential; however, the increasing number of visitors without proper management has led to environmental pressures such as scattered waste, management conflicts, and inadequate facilities. This study employs a descriptive quantitative approach using data from observations, questionnaires, and interviews with five respondent groups to analyze environmental carrying capacity and develop management strategies. The results indicate that the area is experiencing overcapacity, with annual visits reaching 363,240 tourists—exceeding the calculated effective carrying capacity. The appropriate management strategy falls under quadrant II (WO), which involves utilizing external opportunities to address internal weaknesses through visitor limitations, activity zoning, facility improvements, as well as active community involvement and tourist education. This strategy is essential to ensure that tourism continues to grow without harming the environment and provides sustainable socio-economic benefits.
