GAMBAR ILUSTRASI SAMPUL NOVELHARRY POTTER KARYA J.K. ROWLING: STUDI BENTUK DAN MAKNA

Abstract

Harry Potter merupakan salah satu novel fantasi bersambung terlaris di seluruh dunia yang dikarang oleh J.K Rowling. Dalam proses memaknai dan memahami ilustrasi novel Harry Potter ini, tidak hanya tanda yang berupa kata-kata, tetapi perpaduan antara gambar dan isi cerita yang mempunyai makna intrinsik. Dengan demikian peneliti berupaya untuk membedah satu persatu struktur dan makna setiap gambar ilustrasi sampul novel Harry Potter. Struktur sampul yang diteliti menggunakan elemen desain, yaitu titik, garis, bidang, tekstur, warna dan tipografi serta prinsip desain yaitu keseimbangan, irama, penekanan dan kesatuan. Makna gambar ilustrasi yang diteliti menggunakan teori semiotika Charles Sanders Pierce yaitu tipologi tanda. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data studi literatur dan dokumentasi. Dari hasil penelitian ini, telah ditemukan beberapa objek yaitu seperti Harry Potter, Hedwig, Hogwarts serta Lord Voldemort. Berdasarkan analisis semiotika, ikon Harry Potter bermakna keberanian, semangat dan percaya diri. Ikon Hedwig burung hantu milik Harry Potter bermakna keberanian dan kecermatan. Lalu ikon sekolah sihir Hogwarts adalah makna dari kekuasaan dan kekuatan. Dan ikon Lord Voldemort adalah simbol dari kegelapan, kekuatan jahat dan akhir dunia. Sampul Harry Potter karya J.K. Rowling menekankan pada prinsip keseimbangan asimetris, ritme variatif, penekanan yang memperlihatkan ilustrasi Harry Potter dan kesatuan dengan mengulang bidang, tekstur, garis dan unsur visual yang sama.

Harry Potter is one of the best-selling fantasy serial novels around the world written by JK Rowling. In the process of interpreting and understand the illustrations of Harry Potter novel, it was not just a sign in the form of words, but the combination of the images and the story has intrinsic meaning. The researcher attempted to dissect one by one the structure and the meaning of each picture in the illustration cover of Harry Potter novels. The structures of the cover were studied by using elements design, namely dot, line, form, color and typography and the principles design in terms of balance, rhythm, emphasis and unity. The mean of illustrations were studied by using double semiotic typology. This research used qualitative research design with literature and documentation as the data collection techniques. From these results, it is found that some objects such as Harry Potter, Hedwig, Hogwarts and Lord Voldemort. Based on the analysis of semiotic, the icon of Harry Potter meant the courage, passion and confidence. The icon of Hedwig, Harry Potter's owl meant courage and precision. Hogwarts school icon meant the power and the strength. And the icon of Lord Voldemort was the symbol of darkness, evil forces and the end of the world. The cover of Harry Potter works J.K. Rowling insisted on the principle of asymmetrical balance, rhythm varied, emphasis that showed the illustration of Harry Potter and the unity by repeating the field, texture and lines and the same visual elements.
