Abstract

Novel “das Parfum” is a masterpiece work of Patrick Suskind which is bestseller for 361 weeks and eventually attracted director Tom Tykwer to adapt it into a movie. Formulation of the problem in this research is how the adaptation of Jean Baptiste Grenouille characterization of Patrick Suskind's das Parfum novel, into das Parfum movie by Tom Twyker. The purpose of this study is to show the similarities and differences in the characterizations of Jean Baptiste Grenouille as the result of adaptation of the novel into the movie by Tom Twyker. The method used was a comparative descriptive. Results of this study include: 1) There are similarities and differences between the characterizations of Jean Baptiste Grenouille novel and movie, 2) The difference is due to changes of the media of the novel into the movie which is resulting in downsizing characterizations Jean Baptiste Grenouille in the adaptation process.
