Abstract

This study aims to develop a feasible and effective interactive video to improve student learning outcomes on the Earth and Solar System material. This study is a research and development (R&D) using a holistic 4D model that includes the define, design, develop, and deploy stages. The effectiveness of the media was tested using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest–posttest control group design involving an experimental class using interactive video and a control class using conventional learning. The subjects of this study were seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 54 Surabaya with a sample of two classes. The research instruments included validation sheets, response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests that had met the validity and reliability criteria. Data analysis was carried out descriptively to determine the level of media feasibility, while the effectiveness of the media was analyzed using the Normality test, Homogeneity test, Mann–Whitney U, Independent Samples t-test, and Cohen's d effect size. The results of the study showed that: (1) the interactive video development process was carried out through four stages of the holistic 4D model to produce learning media that can be accessed via links or QR codes; (2) interactive videos were declared very feasible based on the results of expert validation and trials with students; and (3) interactive videos are proven to be effective in improving student learning outcomes as evidenced by the results of the Independent Samples t-test with a Sig. (2-tailed) value of <0.001 and a Cohen's d effect size value of 1.435 which is included in the high effect category. Thus, interactive videos are declared suitable and effective for use as learning media on the Earth and Solar System material.
