Development of Interactive Multimedia Minigames for the Informatics Subject (Programming Topic) for Grade XI

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility and test the effectiveness of the developed interactive multimedia minigame based on Roblox Studio in the Informatics subject programming topic for eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Wonoayu. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental. The research subjects consisted of 68 eleventh-grade students divided into an experimental class (XI-6) and a control class (XI-5). Data collection techniques were conducted through a cognitive learning outcomes test in the form of multiple-choice questions (pretest and posttest), as well as feasibility assessment questionnaires for experts and student responses. Learning outcomes data analysis was performed using SPSS application through normality test (Shapiro-Wilk), baseline equality test (Mann-Whitney), Wilcoxon test, and posttest comparative Mann-Whitney U test, along with N-Gain Score analysis due to the non-normal distribution of data. Based on the feasibility assessment results by experts, the percentage score from the instructional design expert was 88.00% (Excellent), the media expert was 88.89% (Excellent), and the material expert was 92.50% (Excellent), which was further supported by the student small-group trial result of 94.33% (Highly Feasible). In terms of cognitive learning outcomes effectiveness, the experimental class experienced a leap in the mean score from 42.06 to 85.29 (p < 0.001). The final comparative posttest result between classes proved that the experimental class significantly outperformed the control class, which only achieved a mean score of 60.59 (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the N-Gain Percent analysis for the experimental class obtained an average score of 73.71%, falling into the Moderately Effective category. Therefore, interactive multimedia minigames based on Roblox Studio are highly suitable and quite effective for improving the cognitive learning outcomes in programming among 11th-grade students at SMAN 1 Wonoayu, making these Roblox minigames an innovative learning tool for visualizing abstract programming concepts.
