Abstract
As time progresses, education becomes increasingly essential. One critical factor impacting the quality of educational results is the commitment to employ innovative learning media that harnesses contemporary digital technology. The Lathe Simulator app comprises a suite of software tools designed for lathe machine simulations, accessible through Android smartphones or PCs. This study sought to assess and analyze the influence of implementing the Project Based Learning (PBL) instructional model, aided by the Lathe Simulator app, on the academic performance of machining engineering students at SMKN 1 Driyorejo. The research methodology employed a Quasi-Experimental approach with a Nonequivalent (Pretest and Posttest) Control Group Design. Data were gathered through pre-test and post-test assessments comprising 25 multiple-choice questions. The study population included students from the Mechanical Engineering Department at SMKN 1 Driyorejo, Gresik. The research sample consisted of 64 students from classes XI - TPM 1 and 3 within the Mechanical Engineering Department. Data analysis comprised descriptive-quantitative techniques such as normality and homogeneity tests, independent sample t-tests, and N-gain score assessments. The findings revealed a significant positive impact, evidenced by a two-tailed independent samples test yielding a significance value of 0.000. Additionally, the Lathe Simulator app's lifelike images, colors, and motion animations emulate real lathe machines, fostering student motivation and engagement in learning. Moreover, the app facilitates comprehension and retention of material, thereby enhancing student academic performance.
