REPRESENTASI PEREMPUAN DALAM PEMBERITAAN “KEKERASAN SEKSUAL” PADA MEDIA BERITA DARING KOMPAS.COM: KAJIAN WACANA LINGUISTIK KORPUS

Abstract

This research is motivated by the high rate of sexual violence against women in Indonesia, which is often represented unequally by the mass media, which tends to marginalize victims and reinforce gender stereotypes. The purpose of this study is to analyze the representation of women in the reporting of sexual violence in the bold news media Kompas.com, using a corpus linguistics approach. The method used is a mixed method, which combines quantitative analysis through word frequency, collocation, and concordance. Meanwhile, qualitative analysis through a critical discourse analysis approach. The research data consists of 25 news articles related to sexual violence against women collected through observation techniques and document studies. The results show that Kompas.com tends to represent women directly as individual victims (victim-centered) by emphasizing the identity and personal experiences of victims. Frequency analysis reveals the dominance of the word "victim" as many as 173 times as the main reference. The collocation analysis emphasizes the identity of women who are strongly attached to their victim status through data such as "women become victims" and "women victims". Furthermore, analysis of the concordance shows the consistent use of initials and ages, such as "a teenage girl with the initials C," which aims to protect privacy but discursively limits the representation of women to the violence they experienced. In conclusion, Kompas.com's discourse strategy still positions women in a passive and subordinate position.
