PERILAKU NEUROTIK TOKOH ANA DALAM NOVEL THE BRAIN CHARGER KARYA MUHAMMAD PIZARO NOVELAN TAUHIDI: KAJIAN NEUROTIK KAREN HORNEY
Abstract
This study is based on the representation of individual psychological complexity, particularly related to neuroticism, as reflected in the The Brain Charger novel of Muhammad Pizaro Novelan Tauhidi. This study aims to identify the personality and neurotic behavior of Ana's main character, based on Karen Horney's neurotic study. Ana portrayed as an ideal figure who is intelligent and has a charming beauty, but on the other hand, she experiences neurotic psychological disorders, a condition closely related to anxiety. This type of research is qualitative research applying a literary psychology approach. Data collection focuses on reading and note-taking techniques. The data analysis technique involves procedures for identifying, describing or interpreting the data based on the concepts of basic hostility and basic anxiety, neurotic needs, and neurotic trends, followed by drawing conclusions from the findings. The results of the study show that Ana's neurotic personality stems from a dysfunctional childhood, which gave rise to basic hostility that later developed into basic anxiety. This condition triggered Ana's neurotic behavior. This behavior is reflected in a neurotic trends to moving against people, based on a dominant neurotic needs, namely the neurotic need for power to deal with anxiety and feelings of helplessness. This study is hoped to broaden perspectives on psychological issues and dynamics through the study of literature.
