Abstract

The lyrics of songs by Bondan Prakoso & Fade2Black not only convey messages directly, but also utilize rhetorical elements such as metaphors, symbols, irony, and ambiguity to convey more complex meanings. This study aims to describe the structure and meaning based on Riffaterre's semiotics. This study uses the lyrics of songs by Bondan Prakoso & Fade2Black as the research data source. The three songs sampled in this study are: “Bunga” from the album Respect (2005); “Tak Sempurna” from the album Respect & Unity For All (2012); and “Ya Sudahlah” from the album For All (2010). The data in this study consists of phrases and lines from the lyrics of these three songs. The data collection technique used was the read and record technique. The data analysis technique used was hermeneutics. The results of the study are (1) the lyrical structure of the songs “Bunga,” “Tak Sempurna,” and “Ya Sudahlah” to iii identify forms of indirect expression according to Riffaterre's semiotic theory. (2) the interpretation of meaning in the lyrics of the songs “Bunga”, “Tak Sempurna”, and “Ya Sudahlah” through heuristic and hermeneutic readings. (3) Describing the matrices, models, and variants contained in the lyrics of the songs “Bunga”, “Tak Sempurna”, and “Ya Sudahlah” according to Riffaterre's semiotic theory. (4) Revealing the hypogram that forms the basis of meaning in the three song lyrics.
