Abstract

Abstract

Copper slag is a by-product of a copper smelting that has physical properties similar as sand. However, copper slag has a greater density than sand. This study aims to determine the effect of using copper slag as a substitute of sand to the quality of concrete roof tile according to SNI 0096: 2007. Composition used 0.80 PC: 0.20 FA: 3 PS with percentage of copper slag substitution as sand as much as 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%.

The results showed that the larger copper slag weight than sand resulted in higher weight per volume of concrete tile. Weight per volume of concrete roof tiles has relevance to water absorption and seepage. The greater the weight per volume of concrete roof tiles the water absorption rate on the concrete roof will be smaller. This is evidenced by the absorption rate in substitution of copper slag 5% by 4.80% and substitution of copper slag 25% by 4.26%. In the five variations of concrete roof tile with copper slag substitution there is also no seepage of water for 20 hours ± 5 minutes. The characteristic of bending load on concrete roof tile with substitution of copper slag 5% is 4900 N and substitution of copper slag 20% equal to 6150 N while in substitution of copper slag 25% equal to 5800 N.

Keywords: Concrete tile, copper slag, sand.
