Abstract

This study compares road pavement damage levels using three evaluation methods: Pavement Condition Index (PCI), Surface Distress Index (SDI), and International Roughness Index (IRI). PCI evaluates the surface condition based on the type and severity of damage, SDI focuses on visual identification, while IRI measures surface roughness affecting ride comfort. A case study was conducted on the Ngujur road section, Madiun – Ponorogo border, with data collected from field surveys. The results show significant differences between the methods. PCI recorded damage ranging from 10 (severe) to 88 (good), SDI from 115 (minor damage) to 55 (moderate damage), and IRI from 2.59 (good) to 7.18 (high). The average SDI and IRI values indicate moderate damage, recommending routine maintenance in areas with high values. This research emphasizes the importance of combining multiple methods to provide a comprehensive view of road conditions, supporting more effective decision-making in road repair and maintenance.
