Abstract

The economic development of a country is supported on the good transportation system for distribution between regions. However, several road sections need improvement, on of them is Mojoagung Ring Road in Jombang Regency. Therefore, an alternative to flexible pavement construction and rigid pavement construction. The choice of calculation method in determining pavement thickness greatly affects the implementation of pavement work and the amount of costs required. This study aims to calculate and compare the planning of flexible pavement and rigid pavement construction using the 2017 Bina Marga method and the 1993 AASHTO method. The calculation stages include traffic volume analysis, subgrade data, and pavement thickness determination. The results of flexible pavement planning using the 2017 Bina Marga method produced a 4 cm thick AC-WC layer, a 6 cm thick AC-BC layer, a 10.5 cm thick AC-Base layer, and a 30 cm thick Class A LPA layer. Meanwhile, using the AASHTO 1993 method, the values obtained were D1 of 14 cm, D2 of 15 cm, and D3 of 45 cm. For rigid pavement, the Bina Marga 2017 method resulted in a concrete slab thickness of 28.5 cm, while the AASHTO 1993 method resulted in a concrete slab thickness of 22.5 cm. The comparison results of the Cost Estimate Plan (RAB) show that flexible pavement of 2017 Bina Marga method is recommended for implementation on the Mojoagung Ring Road section in Jombang Regency because it is more economical and this method is commonly used in road planning in Indonesia.
