Abstract

Expansive soils undergo significant swelling and shrinkage due to fluctuations in moisture content, which can cause damage to the structures built on them. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of adding lightweight brick waste material on the stabilization of expansive soils in Kedamean Subdistrict, Gresik Regency, with a focus on soil settlement. The research method utilizes an experimental laboratory approach to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of the soil both prior to and following stabilization. Lightweight brick waste is added as an additive material with variations of 10%, 20%, and 30%. The tests conducted include Atterberg limit tests, soil specific gravity, Proctor compaction tests, and consolidation tests (Oedometer Test). The test results show that  increasing the percentage of lightweight brick waste leads to an increase in soil specific gravity and plastic limit (PL), while the liquid limit (LL) and plasticity index (PI) decrease. The consolidation test revealed a decrease in the soil consolidation value (Sc). The original soil consolidation value was 0.29 meters, while the lowest Sc value was recorded at 0.18 meters with the addition of 20% lightweight brick waste.
