REPRESENTASI MITOS WHITE SAVIOR DALAM FILM GREEN BOOK (ANALISIS SEMIOTIKA ROLAND BARTHES)

Film Green Book (2018) kerap diposisikan sebagai film humanis yang mengangkat persahabatan lintas ras dan kritik terhadap rasisme di Amerika Serikat. Namun, narasi tersebut tidak terlepas dari persoalan representasi ideologis, khususnya terkait dengan mitos white savior. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana mitos white savior direpresentasikan dan dinaturalisasi dalam film Green Book melalui relasi kuasa antara karakter Tony Vallelonga dan Dr. Don Shirley. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode analisis semiotika Roland Barthes, yang mencakup tingkat makna denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos. Data penelitian berupa adegan dan dialog terpilih yang merepresentasikan dominasi naratif, pengambilan keputusan, serta tindakan penyelamatan dalam konteks diskriminasi rasial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Green Book membangun mitos white savior dengan menempatkan karakter kulit putih sebagai subjek aktif dan solutif, sementara karakter kulit hitam direpresentasikan sebagai pihak yang bergantung pada intervensi tersebut. Mitos ini berfungsi mengaburkan sifat struktural rasisme dan menormalisasi superioritas moral kulit putih dalam narasi sinema populer.
