Abstract

This research aims to identify and analyze the various figurative language styles found in the lyrics of
Japanese songs made by the group NCT. The main focus of the research is to recognize the types of figurative
language used and interpret the meaning implied in the song lyrics. Korean pop music, which is gaining
popularity globally, is one example that attracts interest in today's pop music culture.This research adopts
Nurgiyantoro's concept of stylistics, particularly in understanding the use of figurative language. The data
for this study was collected through the analysis of Japanese-language song lyrics produced by the group
NCT, using a qualitative descriptive method with SBLC and note-taking techniques for analysis.The results
show that there are 79 examples of figurative language styles in Japanese song lyrics written by NCT group.
The types of figurative language styles identified include simile, metaphor, personification, allegory,
metonymy, hyperbole, litotes, irony, sarcasm, and paradox. Of the ten types discussed, only synecdoche is
not found in the song lyrics. The most common figurative language style is hyperbole.The meanings
contained in the song lyrics mostly revolve around the themes of love, struggle, and friendship.
