Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study explores the representation of nonverbal communication in the anime Yubisaki to Renren, focusing on hand gestures and facial expressions used in social interactions, particularly by the main character, who is deaf. Using a qualitative method with a visual and descriptive analysis approach, the study observes various gestures and expressions in different character interaction scenarios. The findings identify 19 primary data points and 3 additional data points with similar gesture patterns in different contexts, resulting in a total of 22 analyzed data points. The gestures and facial expressions in this anime serve to express emotions, build interpersonal relationships, and replace verbal communication. For example, a pleading gesture with a worried expression is used to avoid conflict, while a eating gesture accompanied by a smiling expression creates a comfortable atmosphere. In conclusion, nonverbal communication in Yubisaki to Renren plays a crucial role in character interactions, providing deeper insights into how nonverbal communication is represented in anime and its relevance to real life.
