FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE AND THE MEANING OF “SEMANGAT”IN JLPT N3 KANJI WITH KUNYOMI READING IN BTS’S ALBUM MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 ~THE JOURNEY~

Abstract

The conceptual extension of intermediate-level kanji with kunyomi readings poses semantic challenges for learners. This study aims to identify the figurative representation of "semangat" (enthusiasm), calculate its frequency, and formulate its implications within BTS's album Map of the Soul: 7 ~The Journey~. A qualitative approach with a case study method was applied to bound the corpus, supported by descriptive quantitative statistics. Data collection used documentation and look-and-note techniques. The researcher served as the primary human instrument, assisted by Jisho, Weblio, JLPT Sensei, and Kanshudo. Data analysis integrated lexical, contextual, and cognitive semantics through Lakoff and Johnson's Conceptual Metaphor Theory. The results revealed 144 total occurrences of N3 kunyomi kanji conveying "semangat" across four dimensions: Fighting Spirit and Effort dominated (46 data), followed by Inner Resilience (36 data), Determination and Will (34 data), and Vision and Hope (28 data). Kanji 変わる (kawaru) emerged as the most dominant character with a frequency of 13 times (9.03%). The study concludes that enthusiasm in this album heavily focuses on self-transformation and inner resilience. Educators should utilize this popular corpus to grasp dynamic semantic dimensions beyond static dictionary definitions.

中級レベルの訓読み漢字における文脈的な意味の拡張は、日本語学習者にとって理解が難しい。本研究は、BTSのアルバム『Map of the Soul: 7 ~The Journey~』を対象に、「精神（意欲・希望）」を表す訓読み漢字の比喩的表現を特定し、出現頻度を算出し、日本語教育における意義を提示することを目的とする。コーパスデータを限定するためにケーススタディによる質的アプローチを採用し、頻度分布を測定するために記述統計を併用した。データ収集は歌詞ドキュメントを用いた文献調査法および思考・記述法を用いた。分析の主たる道具は研究者自身であり、補助として『Jisho』『Weblio』『JLPT Sensei』『Kanshudo』を使用した。データ分析には、レイコフとジョンソンの概念メタファー理論による認知意味論、および語彙・文脈意味論を統合した。分析の結果、対象となるN3訓読み漢字の総出現回数144回のうち、データは4つの次元に分類された。「闘志・努力」が46データで最も多く、次いで「内面的なレジリエンス（36）」、「決意・意志（34）」、「未来へのビジョン・希望（28）」であった。個別漢字では「変（かわる）」が13回（9.03％）と最高の出現頻度を記録した。結論として、同アルバムにおける「精神」の表現は、自己変革の認知概念と内面的な回復力に深く根ざしている。学習者がこのポップス歌詞コーパスを優先教材として活用し、静的な辞書の定義を超えた漢字の深い意味次元を習得することを推奨する。
