ANALISIS MAKNA ONOMATOPE GIONGO DALAM MANGA NINGEN NO KAIKATA (ニンゲンの飼い方) KARYA PIETA
Abstract
Onomatopoeia refers to words that imitate sounds or noises and are commonly used in comics to enhance expressive effects. One type of onomatopoeia is giongo, which represents the sounds produced by inanimate objects or natural phenomena. This study aims to classify the forms and analyze the lexical and contextual meanings of giongo in the fantasy slice-of-life manga Ningen no Kaikata by Pieta. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The data were collected directly from the original manga as the primary data source, classified and presented in tables, and then analyzed using semantic theory. The results indicate that the giongo found in Ningen no Kaikata can be classified into six forms: base forms, sound shortening, sound lengthening, morpheme repetition, sound addition, and partial sound changes. Among these, base forms are the most frequently occurring. Furthermore, the analysis shows that most giongo have contextual meanings that correspond to their lexical meanings. However, some giongo have meanings that can only be understood through context because no lexical equivalents were found in the reference sources. Therefore, the meaning of giongo is determined not only by its lexical meaning but also by the context and visual presentation within the manga.
