Abstract

This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of using the Japanese song Haruhikage (春日影) as a supplementary learning medium and to examine its impact on student motivation. The research employed a quasi-experimental method using a pre-test and post-test control group design. The participants consisted of 30 students from SMAN 7 Surabaya, divided into two groups: 15 students in the control group and 15 students in the experimental group. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, and questionnaires, and were analyzed using N-Gain analysis and independent sample t-tests. The results showed that the experimental group achieved an N-Gain score of 0.656, which falls into the moderate category, with an effectiveness level of 65.6%, indicating that the treatment was moderately effective. Furthermore, questionnaire results revealed that 86.67% of the students responded positively and reported feeling happy and motivated when learning Japanese using the song Haruhikage (春日影) as a supporting learning medium. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the shadowing technique using the song Haruhikage (春日影) is effective in improving the Japanese pronunciation skills of beginner learners. In addition to enhancing learning outcomes, the use of Japanese songs can also increase students' motivation and engagement in the Japanese language learning process.
