THE FORM AND THE MEANING OF ONOMATOPOEIA AT LIGHT NOVEL SUZUME NO TOJIMARI (すずめの戸締り) BY MAKOTO SHINKAI
Abstract
Onomatopoeia is an aspect of language that represent the language of nature. It is a symbol of a language that many people didn't know it was called onomatopoeia. This research is about the form and the meaning of onomatopoeia at light novel Suzume no Tojimari (すずめの戸締り) by Makoto Shinkai. Qualitative Descriptive (QD) was implemented in this research, with documentative analysis as the technique used for gathering the data about the form and the meaning of onomatopoeia at light novel Suzume no Tojimari (すずめの戸締り) by Makoto Shinkai. The findings disclose that there were 374 data founded for the form category and 447 data founded for the meaning category. In the form category, 75 data were found not to fit into the predetermined classifications. The data were onomatopoeias with two or more form, this was intended to emphasize the impression created when the onomatopoeia was used. In the meaning category, there were onomatopoeias with two or more meaning, depend on the context of the sentence or dialogue where the onomatopoeia was used.
