University Students’ Perceptions of YouTube As a Supplementary Medium for Learning Japanese

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the perceptions of students of the Japanese Language Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Surabaya regarding the use of YouTube as a supporting medium for Japanese language learning. This study employed a quantitative descriptive method with a sample of 59 students selected through random sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that students' perceptions of the use of YouTube were categorized as high, with an overall mean score of 4.00. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that students have positive perceptions of YouTube as a supporting medium for Japanese language learning. YouTube is considered helpful in providing flexible access to learning materials, improving students' understanding of the subject matter, and supporting independent learning.
