ABSTRACT

This study aims to analyze the denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings of 働き中毒 (hataraki chuudoku)

in the anime series Shirobako using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. This study employed a descriptive

qualitative method. The data source consisted of episodes 1 through 6 of the anime series Shirobako. The

research data consisted of verbal and nonverbal signs representing the meaning of hataraki chuudoku. Data were

collected using observation and note-taking techniques. The findings revealed 27 data, consisting of 21 verbal

data and 6 nonverbal data, from which 33 meaning units were identified, comprising 9 denotative meanings and

24 connotative meanings. At the denotative level, the identified signs depict the characters' work activities during

the anime production process. At the connotative level, hataraki chuudoku is represented through three major

tendencies: professional responsibility, work pressure, and the sacrifice of time, energy, and physical well-being,

with work pressure emerging as the most dominant tendency. At the mythical level, the anime series Shirobako

constructs the understanding that working under pressure, prioritizing work, and sacrificing personal time and

physical well-being are natural consequences of professionalism in the Japanese animation industry.

要旨

本研究の目的は、ローラン・バルトの記号論を用いて、アニメ『 SHIROBAKO』における**

働き中毒（はたらきちゅうどく）**のデノテーション、コノテーション、および神話（ミュ

トス）の意味を分析することである。本研究は質的記述研究法を採用した。研究対象はアニ

メ『SHIROBAKO』第1話から第6話までである。分析対象データは、働き中毒の意味を表す

言語記号および非言語記号である。データ収集は観察法および記録法によって行い。分析の

結果、27件のデータ（言語データ21件、非言語データ6件）が得られ、これらのデータから33

件の意味単位（デノテーション9件、コノテーション24件）が抽出された。デノテーションの

レベルでは、各記号はアニメ制作過程における登場人物の労働活動を示している。一方、コ

ノテーションのレベルでは、働き中毒は「仕事に対する責任感」「仕事上のプレッシャー」

「時間・労力・身体的健康の犠牲」という三つの主要な傾向として表象され、その中でも仕

事上のプレッシャーが最も支配的な意味として確認された。さらに、神話のレベルでは、

『SHIROBAKO』は、強いプレッシャーの下で働くこと、仕事を最優先すること、そして時

間や身体的健康を犠牲にすることが、日本のアニメーション業界におけるプロフェッショナ

リズムの当然の帰結であるという理解を構築していることが明らかとなった。
