ANALYSIS OF METAPHOR IN THE SONG ALBUM AINISAKIHANA (愛ニ咲花 ) BY ROKUDENASHI (ロクデナシ ) SEMANTIC STUDY

This study aims to describe the forms of metaphor and analyze the meanings of metaphors contained in the lyrics of the album AINISAKIHANA (愛ニ咲花) by ロクデナシ (Rokudenashi). The object of this research consists of 12 songs from the album. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, using the simak technique with its extension, Simak Bebas Libat Cakap (SBLC), for data collection, and the agih method with the Bagi Unsur Langsung (BUL) technique for data analysis. Metaphors were identified using the Metaphor Identification Procedure (MIP); their forms were classified based on Stephen Ullmann's theory, while their meanings were analyzed using the vehicle, topic, and ground framework of Knowles and Moon (2006), supplemented by Chaer's (2014) classification of connotative meaning.

The findings identified 23 metaphor data, consisting of concrete-to-abstract metaphors (17 data), anthropomorphic metaphors (4 data), and synesthetic metaphors (2 data), while no animal metaphors were found. In terms of meaning, these metaphors consistently conveyed emotional themes such as longing, loss, uncertainty, and hope through concrete imagery such as flowers, stars, light, and tears. Based on connotative meaning, 13 data carried positive connotations, 9 carried negative connotations, and 1 carried a neutral connotation. The dominance of positive connotative meaning indicates that ロクデナシ's lyrics largely convey constructive messages despite being wrapped in melancholic themes. This study is expected to enrich semantic studies, particularly in the analysis of metaphor in Japanese song lyrics.
