PENGGUNAAN EUFEMISME PADA ANIME GOSICK -ゴシック-

Abstract

This study examines the use of euphemisms (enkyoku hyōgen) in the anime Gosick as an indirect communication strategy to maintain politeness and social harmony in Japanese. The research questions address the forms and functions of euphemisms in character dialogues, aiming to describe them through a pragmatic approach and Hymes' SPEAKING context framework. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, utilizing data from 24 episodes of Gosick, with note-taking techniques for dialogue identification, followed by tiered analysis: data reduction, form classification (e.g., node conjunction, indirect sentences), contextual analysis, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal 9 euphemistic instances, predominantly special expressions like "chotto nakayoku natte mitai kamo" for conveying subtle intentions (criticism, requests, refusals), with primary forms including node conjunctions for polite causation, lexical substitutions (e.g., "tiada" for death), and negative questions.
