ALIH KODE DAN CAMPUR KODE DALAM DIALOG TOKOH FILM DILAN 1983: WO AI NI: KAJIAN SOSIOLINGUISTIK

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomena of code-switching and code-mixing in the dialogues of characters in the film Dilan 1983: Wo Ai Ni, focusing on their forms, causal factors, and communicative functions. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach because it seeks to systematically describe the language use that appears in the film’s dialogues. The research data consist of utterances containing code-switching and code-mixing found in the characters’ conversations. The data were collected through observation by carefully watching and listening to the dialogues in the film, documentation by recording and compiling the film subtitles, and library research to support the theoretical framework used in this study. The collected data were then analyzed using relevant sociolinguistic theories concerning code-switching and code-mixing. The results of the study show that the film Dilan 1983: Wo Ai Ni contains instances of code-switching and code-mixing involving six languages, namely Indonesian, Sundanese, Mandarin, Tetun, Portuguese, and English. The types of code-switching identified include internal code-switching and external code-switching, while code-mixing consists of inner code-mixing and outer code-mixing. These phenomena are influenced by several factors, including the speaker’s background, changes in speech situations, speech varieties and levels, communicative purposes, and the intention to create humor. Functionally, the use of code-switching and code-mixing serves as a marker of social and regional identity, a means of expressing emotions, a way to emphasize meaning, and a form of respect and politeness in interactions between characters.
