KEPRIBADIAN TOKOH RANU DALAM NOVEL UNFINISHED GOODBYE KARYA SYAHID MUHAMMAD (KAJIAN PSIKOANALISIS SIGMUND FREUD)
Abstract
This research is motivated by depiction of character personalities in literary works that related to the character's psychological condition. The novel Unfinished Goodbye by Syahid Muhammad was chosen because it presents the character Ranu with a strong inner conflict, especially related to the experience of trauma, feelings of guilt, and the process of self-acceptance. The purpose of this study is to describe the personality of the character Ranu based on Sigmund Freud's personality theory which includes Id, Ego, and Superego. This study uses a literary psychology approach with qualitative methods. The data source in this study is the novel Unfinished Goodbye by Syahid Muhammad. The data are in the form of narrative excerpts and conversations that show the thoughts, feelings, and actions of the characters. The data collection technique was carried out through reading and note-taking technique. The data analysis technique used qualitative descriptive analysis through the stages of identification, classification, and interpretation of data. The results of the study show that the personality of the character Ranu is dominated by Ego and Superego, while Id appears in very small amounts. Id appears through pure and impulsive desires, Ego is seen in the ability to consider reality, while Superego appears in two forms in the form of conscience as self-punishment when violating morals and Ego Ideal as self-appreciation when acting according to morals. Overall, it describes the form of a character's personality that is influenced by childhood trauma. The results of the study are 1) Id is a human's instinctive desires, 2) Ego is an action that adjusts to reality, 3) Superego is a form of self punishment and self appreciation.
