Abstract

The golden age is a very sensitive and important period for children to receive educational stimuli. One aspect of development that is important to develop is cognitive development. Recognizing number symbols is one of the things related to the cognitive development of symbolic thinking. Readiness to learn to count is a learning activity that aims to give children a solid foundation in learning to count. Introducing number symbols can be done by playing colour playdough media that makes children happy. This quantitative pre-experimental research type one-group pretest-posttest design aims to compare two variables, namely the effect of playing colour playdough on the ability to recognize the symbols of numbers 1-10 in children aged 4-5 years at Al- Amin Kindergarten Menganti Gresik. This study collects data by observation and documentation. The analysis technique in this research is descriptive statistical test and Wilcoxon test using SPSS Version 22. The results showed that the Asymp (2-tailed) value was 0.000 < 0.05 which indicated that H0 was rejected, meaning that there was a significant influence between playing colour playdough on the ability to recognize number symbols 1-10 in children aged 4-5 years at Al-Amin Kindergarten Menganti Gresik.
