Abstract

Social emotional development is the process of developing children's ability to adapt to the wider social world. Children's social behaviour is significantly influenced by interactions with the surrounding environment that will shape their mindset and behaviour. Effective parenting from parents has a very important role in the formation of children. Currently, many parents, especially mothers, provide parenting by introducing gadgets to their children and it is not uncommon for children to be able to access gadgets connected to the internet from an early age. Excessive use of gadgets in early childhood can result in internet addiction and disrupt their social interactions. This study aims to determine the effect of internet addiction and maternal parenting on social interactions of children aged 5-6 years. This study uses a quantitative approach with a comparative causal method. The research sample was children aged 5-6 years who experienced internet addiction in Greater Surabaya. Data were collected through questionnaires and analysed using SPSS and PROCESS 4 Andrew Hayes. The results obtained are internet addiction and maternal parenting significantly affect children's social interaction.
