IMPROVING CULTURAL LITERACY AND CITIZENSHIP SKILLS USING LOCAL TOURISM THEMED BIG-BOOKS IN EARLY CHILDREN

Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve children's cultural literacy and citizenship skills using a big-book with the theme of local tourism. The research subjects were children from group B2 of I Care Kindergarten Surabaya for the 2023/2024 academic year with a total of 11 students. The data collection techniques used in this research were observation and documentation in the form of photos of children's activities in the learning process. The data analysis technique in this research uses quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of the research showed that there was an increase in children's cultural and civic literacy skills in cycle 1, there were 7 children whose literacy skills had been completed, then in cycle 2 it increased to 9 children. In percentage terms, initially 63.63% became 81.81%. From the description above, it can be concluded that big-book media with a local tourism theme can improve cultural and civic literacy skills in children aged 5-6 years in the B2 group at I Care Kindergarten Surabaya.
