Abstract

This research aims to improve the ability to recognize words through the snake and ladder word game in group B children of Babus Salam Kindergarten Kenjeran Surabaya. This research is a type of Classroom Action Research (PTK). Data collection methods are observation and documentation. The data analysis technique uses quantitative descriptive.

When pre-action observations were carried out, the percentage of children's word recognition ability was 41.66%. In Cycle I it was 60.21% with an increase of 18.55%, and in Cycle II it was 80.55% with an increase of 38.89%. This increase in the ability to recognize words includes children being able to point to words according to pictures/commands, saying words by reading text/what is written and mentioning symbols in words. The percentage obtained shows that the word recognition ability of group B children with good criteria has reached a success indicator of 76%. Steps for the snakes and ladders game so that it can improve the ability to recognize words and children can already recognize nouns: basin, pan, jar, cutting board, chopsticks, rice cooker, grater, pan, oven, faucet, bowl, refrigerator, fork, bottle, stove, glass, cup, blender, plate and stile, namely 1) the teacher prepares the snakes and ladders game media from ati sponge, dice from used cardboard formed into cubes, pawns, 2) the teacher explains and gives an example of the snakes and ladders game, namely throwing the dice, run the pawn and mention the picture, the word written on the board where the pawn stops, 3) the children are conditioned to sit in a circle on the carpet and then divide into groups, 1 group consists of 5-6 children, 4) the teacher provides reinforcement and motivation in the form of advice to the children, 5) after finishing playing children who develop according to expectations are given an award in the form of a picture of a star.
