Abstract

Abstract

In mathematics learning, especially numeracy, in group A of Karya Madani Kindergarten Surabaya is still very low. This can be seen from the results of the initial study (pre-cycle). Therefore, an effort is needed to improve children's numeracy through loose part media. This study aims to improve children's numeracy through loose part media play activities. The subjects of the study were children aged 4-5 years with a total of 15. The data taken in this study were the results of the pre-cycle, the results of teacher activity observations, and the results of child activity observations, and the development of child numeracy. This study is a classroom action research (CAR) conducted in 2 cycles. Each cycle includes 4 stages, the first stage is Planning, Implementation of actions, Observation and Reflection. In each cycle there are 4 meetings. The results of observations in cycle I The percentage of scores for teacher (researcher) activities reached 71.5%, Student activity observations 56.5%, and student ability results 60%. While in cycle II the percentage of scores for teachers (researchers) was 90.13% and student observations reached 87.41%. And the percentage of completeness reached 86.93% because the results of the child's completeness had reached the expected criteria of 80%, so the study was stopped until cycle 2. Thus it can be seen that the success indicators have been achieved according to what was expected. This increase shows that loose part media is effective in improving early childhood numeracy skills. The results of this study Piaget's cognitive development theory emphasizes the importance of direct experience in the child's learning process.
