Meningkatkan Kemampuan Bercerita Melalui Media Wayang Bonekwan Pada Anak Usia 3-4 Tahun
Abstract
This research is motivated by the underdeveloped storytelling skills of children aged 3–4 years, which is largely
due to the lack of engaging media used during storytelling activities. As a result, children show less interest in storytelling
sessions. The purpose of this study is to gather information on efforts to improve storytelling abilities in young children
through the use of wayang bonekwan media, as well as to describe the activities of teachers and students during the
learning process. This study employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach, following a four-step cycle:
planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 15 children aged 3–4 years from group B of PPT
Bahari, Krembangan District, Surabaya. Data collection was conducted through observation, and data were analyzed
using descriptive statistics with reflective analysis in each cycle. Data sources included both primary and secondary data,
such as recommendations and field notes.
The results showed that wayang bonekwan media successfully enhanced children's storytelling skills,
demonstrated by an achievement rate of over 76% across three success indicators. The study also revealed a strong
correlation between teacher and student activities, where several modifications in the learning process effectively
improved children’s storytelling abilities. This was evident in the average indicator results, which increased from 64% in
the first cycle to 85% in the second cycle, marking a 21% improvement. Observations of teacher and student activities
revealed enthusiastic responses, orderly participation, eagerness to take turns, and great joy in retelling stories using the
attractive and easy-to-use wayang bonekwan media. These findings indicate that storytelling skills in children can be
effectively improved through storytelling activities using wayang bonekwan media at PPT Bahari, Krembangan District,
Surabaya.
