Abstract

This study aims to improve the storytelling skills of children aged 3-4 years using animal hand puppets (Botabi) at
PPT Permata Bulak Banteng Surabaya. The method used is classroom action research (CAR) with two cycles,
including planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 15 children
aged 3-4 years. The results showed an increase in children's storytelling skills after the application of animal hand
puppets. The pre- cycle research findings indicated that children’s storytelling ability was at 46%. Following the
implementation of cycle 1, the ability increased to 64%, and after cycle 2, it further improved to 85%. This
improvement was observed in the indicators of the ability to name characters in stories, use expressions, and
convey stories in simple language. Thus, animal hand puppets (Botabi) can be an effective alternative in enhancing
storytelling skills in early childhood.
