Abstract

Storytelling ability is a crucial aspect of early childhood language development. Initial observations at PPT Cahaya
Mentari, Surabaya, revealed that children aged 3–4 years had difficulty expressing their experiences verbally. This study
aims to examine the effectiveness of bubble play (Gelud) activities in enhancing children’s storytelling skills and to
evaluate the teacher’s role in optimizing learning through this medium. The research employed a Classroom Action
Research (CAR) method using the Kemmis & McTaggart spiral model, conducted in three cycles: planning,
implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 10 children (five boys and five girls). Data were collected
through observation and analyzed descriptively. Results showed an increase in teacher activity from 60% in cycle I to
95% in cycle III. Children’s storytelling skills also improved, rising from 70% in cycle I to 90% in cycle III. Progress was
evident in both the ability to recount simple experiences and to narrate stories sequentially in their own words. These
findings indicate that the Gelud medium is effective in stimulating early childhood storytelling skills. Active teacher
involvement in designing exploratory activities and providing verbal prompts significantly supported the success of this
program.
