Abstract
Early literacy or Pre-literacy is a term used to describe a child's ability to use letters that are mastered before the child learns how to read and write. However, in children aged 5-6 years group B in Teratai Kindergarten, 10 out of 15 children were found to be unable to recognize and mention vowels and consonants. Learning to read is indeed not easy. There are various factors that are less supportive in learning to read activities, such as children still have difficulty memorizing letters, children get bored easily when learning to read, teachers use media that are less interesting for children in learning to read. Children's reading development can develop optimally if given stimulus in early literacy activities. Flashcard media is one effort to deal with this problem. In early childhood, they tend to understand early literacy better in a fun way / method, the existence of activities in the form of flash card games modified with magic box games, taking ang pao, stepping on letters, cutting and pasting letters, connecting pictures accompanied by singing songs to recognize letters can improve children's early literacy skills. In the initial observation, the children's abilities were 50%, in cycle 1 70% and in cycle 2 82.78%. So it can be concluded that children's early literacy abilities through flash card media have increased.
