Penggunaan media puzzle geometri dalam meningkatkan aspek perkembangan kognitif anak di TK Ghufron Faqih
Abstract
Early childhood education is a critical phase that determines the direction of a child's overall development, including cognitive development. However, the reality in the field shows that learning in kindergarten is often still centered on monotonous and uninteresting reading, writing, and arithmetic activities, thus reducing children's interest in learning. Initial observations at Ghufron Faqih Kindergarten showed that most children were not yet able to name and group geometric shapes correctly. This indicates a weak cognitive aspect of children. Therefore, innovative efforts are needed through the use of media that are in accordance with the characteristics of early childhood. Geometry puzzles were chosen as a solution because they are able to stimulate concentration, logic, and visual understanding of shapes. With this approach, it is expected to be able to optimally improve the cognitive development of children. This clssroom action reseach aims childrens cognitive development throught geometricpuzzle media. The subjects of this study were children aged 5-6 years totaling9 children. This research was conducted at Ghufron Faqih Kindergarten on Jalan Sombo no.36-38, Simolawang Village, Simokerto District, Surabaya City. This research was conducted during December 2024 and January 2025. This action research uses the Kemmis and Mc. Tnggart who stated that this study went throughtwo cycles consisting of cycle l and cycle ll which included the planning, action, observation, and reflection states. The data obtained by referring to the results of child obsevations in improving aspects of childrens cognitive development through geometric puzzle media. The results of this study indicate an increase in aspects of childrens cognitive development through child obsevation. Before the study, the average score of children was 35%. After cycle l, children increased to 55,5% in improving aspects of childrens cognitive development. Then in cycle ll there was an increase againto 88,8% with the use of geometric puzzle media. This proves that the use of geometric puzzle media can improve aspects of childrens cognitive development and the use of geometric puzzle media is very interesting for children in the learning process. So that in cycle ll it has reached completion and the study was stopped with just two cycles.
