Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using number cards on the symbolic thinking abilities of 5-6 year old children at Al-Hidayah Anggaswangi Kindergarten Plus, Sidoarjo. Symbolic thinking abilities are an important part of children's cognitive development, including the ability to recognize symbols, connect symbols with objects, categorize, and sequence based on certain patterns. The study used a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design, involving 29 children as research subjects divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected through observation, documentation, pre-tests, and post-tests using validated assessment instruments. The results of the study showed a significant increase in children's symbolic thinking abilities after being given treatment using number card media. Number card media helped children understand the relationship between number symbols and quantities, improved their classification abilities, and strengthened their understanding of patterns and sequences. Thus, the use of number card media proved to be an effective learning strategy in stimulating the symbolic thinking abilities of early childhood.
