PENGARUH PROGRAM PEMBIASAAN TERHADAP PERILAKU PROSOSIAL ANAK USIA 4-5 TAHUN DAY CARE SUNSHINE UNESA
Abstract
Prosocial behavior is an essential aspect of early childhood social development that needs to be fostered through appropriate educational stimulation. However, some children still experience difficulties in sharing, cooperating, helping others, and showing empathy toward their peers. One strategy to promote prosocial behavior is the implementation of a tolerance value cultivation program. This study aimed to determine the effect of a tolerance value cultivation program on the prosocial behavior of children aged 4–5 years at Sunshine Day Care. The study employed a quantitative approach using a One-Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The participants consisted of all children aged 4–5 years enrolled at Sunshine Day Care, selected through a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through structured observations using an assessment instrument that measured five indicators of prosocial behavior: sharing, helping, cooperation, empathy, and respect for others. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing with the assistance of SPSS software. The results revealed that the tolerance value cultivation program had a significant effect on children's prosocial behavior. This finding was supported by the hypothesis testing result, which showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Following the implementation of the program, children demonstrated improvements in sharing, helping peers, cooperating in group activities, showing empathy, and respecting others. Therefore, the tolerance value cultivation program can be considered an effective strategy for enhancing prosocial behavior in early childhood and supporting character education implementation in early childhood education settings.
