Abstract

This study aims to describe the activities of children and teachers and to improve the fine motor skills of 4-5-year-old children through collage activities using natural materials at TK Pancasila 1 Surabaya. The low level of children’s fine motor skills was caused by excessive gadget exposure, resulting in suboptimal eye-hand coordination, precision, and concentration. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of two cycles with two meetings per cycle. The subjects were 15 children in Group A (aged 4-5 years) at TK Pancasila 1 Surabaya. Data were collected through observation using instruments for teacher activities, children’s activities, and fine motor skills assessment (finger flexibility and hand coordination, tool handling, accuracy in pasting, eye-hand coordination, and neatness of the collage results). The results showed a significant improvement. In Cycle I, the average fine motor skill achievement reached 68%. After improvements in Cycle II, the percentage increased to 85%, exceeding the success indicator of ≥80%. Collage activities with natural materials proved effective in training precise movements, creativity, concentration, and perseverance in children. This study concludes that collage using natural materials is an innovative, affordable, and highly suitable learning medium for developing fine motor skills in early childhood.
