Abstract

This study aims to improve the independence of children in Group B at TK Rahmat Surabaya through cutting activities and to describe teacher and child activities during the learning process. Low independence was indicated by most children’s inability to prepare their own tools, complete tasks without assistance, and tidy up tools after use. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model over eight cycles, each including planning, action, observation, and reflection. Subjects were 30 children. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and field notes, then analyzed descriptively qualitatively and quantitatively. Success was defined as at least 75% of children achieving the categories of Developing as Expected (BSH) or Developing Very Well (BSB). The results showed that cutting activities improved teacher activities, making them more focused and varied, while child activities became more active, enthusiastic, and independent. Children’s independence increased from 23,3% (Cycle 1) to 83,3% (Cycle II). In conclusion, cutting activities effectively improve children’s independence. It is recommended that teachers continuously implement cutting activities with variations in shapes and difficulty levels. Keywords: Cutting activities, early childhood
