Abstract

Children’s motor development is one aspect of child development that involves body movement during play. This study was motivated by the physical gross motor skills of children aged 5-6 years at TK Kartika Surabaya, where their dance movements were not synchronized with the rhythm of the accompanying music. This issue inspired the researcher to address the problem through rhythmic activities using kentongan (traditional wooden percussion instruments). This study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design based on the Kemmis and Mc Taggart model, conducted in two cycles. Data colection techniques included observation and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive quantitative methods, with a success indicator set at a minimum of 75% of children achieving the categories of “Very Well Developed”(BSB) or “Developed as Expected” (BSH). The result of the study showed that the use of rhythmic activities with kentongan significantly improved children’s motor skills, with noticeable progress from the pre- action stage to cycle I and cycle II, reaching a completion rate of 75%. Therefore, it can be concluded that rhythmic activities using kentongan can improve the gross motor skills of chidren aged 5-6 years at TK Kartika Surabaya.
