Abstract

This research was motivated by the low fine motor skills of children aged 5–6 years at TK Al Amien Surabaya, especially in cutting activities. This condition can be seen from the fact that many children are not yet able to cut according to patterns neatly, lack skill in using scissors, and have not developed optimal hand-eye coordination. Based on the initial observation, it was found that 75% of the children were not yet accurate in cutting, while only 25% were able to cut properly. Therefore, it is necessary to implement learning activities that can improve children's fine motor skills, one of which is cutting pattern activities. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of fine motor skills of children aged 5–6 years through cutting pattern activities at TK Al Amien Surabaya. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 15 children of Group B as the research subjects. The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation using a fine motor skills assessment sheet. The results showed that cutting pattern activities could improve children's fine motor skills. This was indicated by the improvement in children's ability to use scissors, cut according to patterns, and produce neater cutting results from the initial condition to the subsequent cycles. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that cutting pattern activities are effective in improving fine motor skills of children aged 5–6 years at TK Al Amien Surabaya.
